The Institute of Maltese Journalists (IĠM) Annual General Meeting 2014

The 2014 Annual General Meeting of the Institute of Maltese Journalists was held on Saturday, 25 January, 2014. During the meeting Malcolm J Naudi was elected for the 14th time as Chairman of the Institute, which he has been serving since 2001.

In his address Malcolm thanked the outgoing secretary general Joe A. Vella for his great contribution to the Institute since it was founded in 1989. Then he spoke of his work behind the scenes, including judging the Malta Tourism Authority Press Awards for 2012, judging the local competition of articles related to health in the local media and collaborating with MEUSAC on the visit of Italian journalist Maria Teresa Sette for a public lecture on migration.

Commenting on the two most recent media releases of the IĠM on the confidentiality of the source and the request of the protection of the IĠM. Malcolm stressed the application of fundamental principles that should apply no matter who was involved. This is what will give the Institute credibility.

In the coming year the Institute will be organizing a national conference on media ethics, collaborating with Xinhua New Agency on a number of initiatives for the local media and in November celebrating its 25th anniversary. A seminar will also be held to finalise the Institute’s five-year plan for the coming years.
